Do most companies that run background checks search only the records of the state where the company is located?

I have a charge from AZ from 5 years ago(misdemeanor) will it show up on a background check done in Illinois?

    No, they look back a number of years.

    I recently had a coworker fired because she applied for another position in the company that required the company to do a more in depth background check than they normally do for hires. They found an old felony from california from like 10 years back.

    That being said, most companies let misdemeanors pass. Its felonies that they are really concerned about
